Uzbek Foreign Minister Abdulaziz Kamilov received the newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Korea Lee Wook-heon on Friday, the press service of the Foreign Ministry reported.

The Ambassador presented his credentials addressed to President Islam Karimov to the Minister.

Korean Ambassador Jong Dae Wang completed his diplomatic mission in Uzbekistan in May of this year.

During the meeting, Abdulaziz Kamilov and Lee Wook-Heon emphasized the dynamic nature of bilateral relations in political, trade, economic, cultural, humanitarian and other spheres and confirmed their mutual interest in further strengthening of multilateral cooperation.

The sides discussed progress in the implementation of the agreements reached during the state visit of President Islam Karimov to Seoul in September 2012.

Recall that of a set of agreements worth a total of more than $5 billion was signed during the visit, of which more than $3 billion constitute direct South Korean investment.

According to the 2012 results, the Uzbek-Korean bilateral trade has increased by 31.4 percent, reaching $2.139 billion.

There are more than 350 enterprises in Uzbekistan with South Korean capital investment in the fuel and energy sector, light industry, chemical industry, food industry, commerce, engineering and metalworking.

The meeting also covered the schedule of upcoming Uzbek-South Korean contacts at various levels.
