Uzbekistan is a close neighbor and strategic partner of China, the President of China Xi Jinping said in an interview with Jahon Information Agency of Uzbekistan's Foreign Ministry on the eve of his visit to Uzbekistan.
The Chinese President went on to add that a healthy and stable dynamics has been maintained over 21 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
Serious results have been achieved in cooperation in various spheres, a number of large and socially significant joint projects have been successfully realized, Xi Jinping said.
The Chinese President said that in 2012, the volume of bilateral trade reached $2.875 billion, which is over 50 times more compared with the first years after the establishment of diplomatic relations.
Today, China is the second largest trading partner and investor in Uzbekistan.
"The strategic partnership between China and Uzbekistan is full of vigor and energy. We are ready to work together with Uzbekistan, on the basis of long-term prospects and the current need of development of bilateral relations, we must raise the strategic partnership between the two countries to new frontiers," the Chinese President said.
According to Xi Jinping, China and Uzbekistan can make full use of close geographical location, economic complementarity; close historical cultural and humanitarian ties.
The Chinese side is interested in building a unified transport network, the development of trade and investments, strengthening humanitarian ties, using the potential of tourist cooperation and development of scientific exchanges.
"I am convinced that through our joint efforts, Chinese-Uzbek cooperation will be further strengthened for the benefit of our countries and peoples," Xi Jinping said.
The Chinese President Xi Jinping's visit to Uzbekistan is scheduled for September 8-10 at the invitation of Uzbek President Islam Karimov.
