Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko has appointed Nikolai Klakevich as Ambassador to Uzbekistan, the Belarusian President's office said today.
According to the report, Klakevich will replace head of the Belarusian diplomatic mission Igor Sokol, who is completing his mission in Uzbekistan.
The Uzbek Foreign Ministry said diplomatic relations were established in January 1993. The Belarusian embassy was opened in Tashkent in February 1994.
Inter-state Belarusian-Uzbek relations are regulated by agreement on the basis of the interstate relations (1991), 19 interstate and intergovernmental, 15 inter-ministerial agreements.
According to Uzbek official statistics, the trade turnover between the two countries amounted to $151.8 million as of 2012 compared to $156.6 million a year earlier. There are 17 joint ventures with Belarusian capital and one company with full Belarusian capital - Amkodor-Tashkent in Uzbekistan.
