Heads of foreign trade agencies of SCO member-states discuss economic cooperation issues

Economic cooperation issues pertaining to the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) were discussed in Tashkent on Wednesday by the ministers of the organization's member-states responsible for foreign policy and foreign trade, Uzbekistan's Ministry of Foreign Economic Relations, investments and Trade (MFERIT) said.

The participants of the meeting stressed that since the eleventh meeting of the ministers held in November 2012 in Bishkek, there has been significant work on the implementation of agreements reached during the meetings of the Council of the heads of states and governments of the SCO member-states In the sphere of development of trade, economic and investment cooperation.

Currently, a solid legal and functional base for the development of multilateral dialogue was created. Meanwhile, one of the main conditions for achieving program goals and tasks of the SCO, is the further expansion and deepening of trade and economic cooperation, the topicality of which steadily increases, the participants of the meeting said.

During the meeting in Tashkent, a large spectrum of issues on further development and deepening of regional economic cooperation within the SCO was discussed, delegation heads spoke about their states as well as prospects for trade and economic cooperation within the organization, as well as reports about the activity of SCO Business Council and Interbank Consortium during 2012-2013.

The participants of the meeting also heard the information about the implementation process of the multilateral trade and economic cooperation of SCO member-states and the list of events on further development of project activities with the SCO for the period of 2012-2016.

The parties agreed to coherently carry out the practical work on implementation of these documents paying a special attention to the investment projects in the concrete spheres of cooperation.

The parties decided to submit the agreement between the government of the SCO member-states on the creation of favorable conditions for international car travel and the report of the SCO Secretariat about the implementation process of the program for multilateral trade and economic cooperation of SCO member-states to the consideration of the Council of the heads of governments of SCO member-sates that will take place on November 28-29, 2013 in Tashkent.
