Uzbekistan's Foreign Minister Abdulaziz Kamilov received Jan Kubis, Special Representative of the Secretary-General and head of the UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan, who is on a visit to the country.

The parties discussed cooperation between Uzbekistan and the UN. During the exchange of views on some international and regional issues, special attention was paid to the situation in Afghanistan.

It was emphasized that Uzbekistan has an open and clear position on this issue that was expressed in the speech of Uzbek president Islam Karimov on October 25 at the meeting of the Council of CIS head of states in Minsk.

Karimov said in his speech that "Uzbekistan, as a neighboring country to Afghanistan, adheres to the principal policy of non-interference in the internal affairs of Afghanistan, organization of bilateral cooperation with Afghanistan and rendering assistance and support to the government that will be elected by Afghans themselves".
