SCO countries to strengthen security measures regarding ISAF withdrawal from Afghanistan

Member countries of the Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure of the Shanghai cooperation organization agreed on joint measures at the meeting in Takshent ensuring regional security and counteraction to the threats after the partial withdrawal of the international security assistance force from Afghanistan in 2014, the representative SCO RATS Executive Committee told Trend.

The representatives of Kazakhstan, China, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and the Executive Committee of the SCO RATS attended the meeting.

The member countries of the organization will take additional security measures regarding partial withdrawal of ISAF from Afghanistan in 2014, according to Executive Committee representative.

This decision was made regarding expectations of weakening the regime in Afghanistan and the possible increase in terrorist activity of the terrorist, separatist and extremist organizations operating in this country.

Following the meeting, the regulation was approved on the mechanism of interaction among the competent authorities of the SCO member states in identifying, preventing and suppressing the use of the Internet for terrorist, separatist and extremist purposes.

A draft regulation was approved on the Unified Register of Internet resources used by terrorist, separatist and extremist purposes in order to improve the coordination and cooperation among the competent authorities of the SCO member states in the fight against terrorism, separatism and extremism and a group of interaction on neutralization of cyberthreats was created.

Furthermore, it was decided to hold the second scientific conference on cooperation in combating international terrorism and extremism among the SCO members and observer states of the organization in the fourth quarter of 2014.

The meeting also supported the decision to hold a joint border operation of the competent authorities of the SCO member states in 2014.

The next regular meeting of the SCO RATS Council will be held in Tajikistan in September 2014.

SCO was founded in 2001 and is a permanent intergovernmental international organisation. It includes Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, China, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.
India, Iran, Mongolia and Pakistan have observer status in the SCO. Belarus, Turkey and Sri Lanka are dialogue partners.

RATS is a permanent body of the SCO and is intended to assist in the coordination and collaboration of the Parties' competent agencies in combating terrorism, separatism, and extremism.

RATS is guided by the documents and decisions adopted in the framework of the SCO. RATS interacts with the competent authorities of the parties and prepare appropriate materials at the request of other SCO bodies.

RATS includes representatives from intelligence and law enforcement agencies of Kazakhstan, China, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.
