Uzbek farmers started harvesting the Uzbek Ministry of Agriculture and Water Resources told Trend on June 11.

"More than one million hectares have been sown with cereals this season," the ministry said.

Over 19,500 combines, trucks and other vehicles will be used in the harvesting campaign.

The country's need of wheat is more than four million tonnes, taking into account the reserves - five million tonnes in Uzbekistan with a population of 30 million people.

Uzbek grain-growers collected 7.61 million tonnes of grain in 2013 compared to 7.17 million tonnes in 2012. The average yield of grain in the country was 55 quintals per hectare compared to 52 quintals a year earlier.
