President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov observed the construction of the new mosque 'Minor' in Tashkent, Uzbek national news agency (UzA) said on July 19.

The president inspected the work of builders and craftsmen, and made recommendations on improving the complex under construction.

Uzbek president also inspected the mosque's adjacent territory. Extensive works have been carried out in this area for improvement.

President Karimov stressed that all the details of construction must comply with the highest demands of urban development.

The new mosque is located on the bank of the Ankhor Canal, which flows through the central part of Tashkent. The canal's embankment has also been significantly beautified in recent months.

In July 2013, the Uzbek president signed a decree 'On measures for construction of a mosque in 'Minor' mahalla (neighbourhood) of Tashkent'.

The mosque's construction is being funded with the help of the state budget and the Muslim Board of Uzbekistan (MBU).

The new mosque is designed for 2,400 people, and will be one of the biggest mosques in Uzbekistan. Its construction is scheduled to be completed in early November, 2014.
