New candidacy to be considered for post of U.S. Ambassador to Uzbekistan

The U.S. Senate will consider Pamela Spratlen's candidacy as the new U.S Ambassador to Uzbekistan, the White House said on July 29.

Currently, George Krol is the U.S. Ambassador to Uzbekistan. He has held the position since 2010, and his term runs out this summer.

Spratlen is a career diplomat, according to the statement. She worked at the U.S. Embassy in Guatemala, the country's mission in the Organization of American States (USOAS), the U.S. Mission to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (USOECD).

She was the coordinator of technical assistance programs in the U.S. Embassy in Moscow.

She served as U.S. Consul General in Vladivostok, a special assistant to the adviser at the U.S Department of State, head of Central Asia department, Acting Deputy Assistant Secretary for Central Asia, head of Western Europe department, Deputy Chief of Mission of the U.S. Embassy in Kazakhstan.

Since 2011 Spratlen has been heading the U.S. Embassy in Kyrgyzstan.

Spratlen, who is fluent in Russian, French and Spanish, has a number of awards of the U.S. Department of State.

Henry Lee Clarke (1992-1995), Stanley Escudero (1995-1997), Joseph Pressel (1997-2000), John Herbst (2000-2003), Jon Purnell (2004 - 2007) and Richard Norland (2007-2010) have worked as U.S. Ambassadors to Uzbekistan since 1992.
