Uzbek President Islam Karimov visited the new facilities built in Tashkent for the upcoming Independence Day, Uzbek news agency (UzA) reported.

The president reviewed a new 642 meter long and 19 meter wide bridge, a new 5.1 kilometer long bypass road in the so-called Old City, as well as an overpass which is under construction, according to the statement.

The Uzbek president appreciated the work of road workers and builders, according to the report.

President Karimov stressed that in accordance with the general reconstruction plan of the Old City, new roads, bridges, modern houses and communications will be built.

The president also visited the newly-commissioned Republican Specialized Youth Chess School. There are military training rooms, a sports hall, a dining room, special rooms for chess tournaments, where up to 100 players can play simultaneously. People can play online with foreign peers and enhance their experience in the room, equipped with computers with internet connection.

The Uzbek president pointed to the need to build another national facility near the school designed for holding international competitions, according to the report.

The president also visited the renovated building of the Public Administration Academy in Uzbekistan. The building was completely renovated upon the president's initiative in accordance with the modern architectural and technological requirements.

The academy complex includes three conference rooms and a large exhibition hall, 10 halls for organizing round tables and other events, as well as a sports complex.

The Public Administration Academy under the Uzbek president is the most important educational institution, where qualified personnel for the bodies of state authority and administration are educated.

The Academy is engaged in all kinds of methodical, scientific research, information and analytical work. It is collaborating with research and educational institutions of the world's leading countries.

"This academy also provides people with the knowledge of life," the president stressed. "Everyone who graduated from the academy must be worthy of governing the country. It is necessary to strengthen international cooperation, to study the system of governance of developed countries and to share experience."
