Ahmadinejad is still president: Trend News commentator

Head of the Trend Persian Service, Dalgha Khatinoglu.

Despite non-participation of several Iranian influential figures, as well as opposition members in Ahmadinejad's inauguration in the Parliament on August 5 and continuing protests of opposition against President, the only thing for Iranian internal forces and international community is to recognize Ahmadinejad as President. Despite opposition pressure, Ahmadinejad can fully set down to fulfill responsibilities during the second term of his presidency.

Ahmadinejad's scandal victory during presidential elections and continuing protests of opposition leaders, as well as death of numerous people during actions having no analogue beginning from 1979, caused moral damaged to authority. But legitimacy of authorities was not damaged.

Iranian ex-presidents, including Hashemi Rafsanjani, Mohammad Khatami and Imam Khomeini's grandson Hassan Khomeini, ex-candidates for president Mehdi Karroubi, Mir Hossein Mousavi, as well as 80 percent of opposition members (57 of 70) did not attend Ahmadinejad's inauguration. At present, hundreds of protesting people gathered in front of the Parliament.

Requirement of democratic changes is not new in Iran. Ahmadinejad's inauguration coincided with 103-th-anniversary of Mashrut revolution in Iran. But, as before, Iranian people demand justice, law and democracy.

Problem with democracy occurs not only in Iran. Problems with democracy and human rights in countries of the region do not differ from Iranian problems. It is absurdly to speak about democracy in Uzbekistan. Roughly 300 protesting people were killed after presidential elections in Uzbekistan. Results of presidential elections were announced last week in Armenia or Kyrgyzstan, as well as in U.S allies-countries - Saudi Arabia, UAE and Egypt, especially, in China being constant member of UN Security Council. Non-recognition of Ahmadinejad's legitimacy can cause great problems.

U.S Senate confirmed imposing of sanctions against companies exporting petroleum to Iran. It will be cause for official Tehran to accuse foreign forces of creating problems within Iran. In the worst case, the USA will be obliged to take control over the southern borders of Iran, which imports 40 percent of domestic consumption of oil from foreign countries. And there is no difference from declaration of war. Alternatively, taking aim to Iranian nuclear facilities, it will lead to declaration of military and extraordinary state in Iran.

Obama's dministration must take a strategic position towards Iran. Visit of U.S. ex-President Bill Clinton to North Korea on August 4 and release of 2 U.S women journalists sentenced to 12 years, revealed that official Washington can always find a reason to hold discussions with opponents. There are a lot of facts confirming it. For example, visit of U.S. ex-President Richard Nixon to China in 1972 "melted ice" in relations between two countries; John Kennedy's requirement from Russia in 1962 to withdraw missiles from Cuba; achievement of Muammer al-Gazafi's denial from nuclear program in 2003 and restoration in 2004 after 25 years, diplomatic relations with Libya. It means that the USA can create relations with Iran too, whenever USA want.

The president of Cuba, Raul Castro, announced about readiness for discussions with Obama on all spheres the same week. Cuba has hostile relations with USA for over 60 years. On the other hand, diplomatic between the USA and Syria this year began to restore.

We believe that Barack Obama must take flat decision to restore U.S-Iranian relations. It is also clear that Arabic countries will take normalization of relations between Washington and Tehran as weakening of their influence in the region as U.S. allies. Completing of Iranian blockade as a result of restoration of U.S-Iranian relations does not correspond to interests of Russia and China, as these countries easily take positions of western companies on the markets of isolated Iran.

But the fact is that basis of the Iranian Islamic revolution is in the fight against the USA and imperialism. While it is true, but, in our opinion, Obama must not combat with reality but must try to control it.
