Turkish President Abdullah Gul said that Iran's decision to allow new controls on its nuclear energy program was a positive development, and urged everyone to refrain from any action that could escalate tension in the region, Anadolu Agency reported.
In an interview with the France7 TV channel, RFI radio channel and the Le Monde, President Gul said, " recent developments are quite positive. Iran accepted to open its borders to experts from the International Atomic Energy Agency for new controls."
"If we act like we did during the Iraqi war, we will make many mistakes. There were statements that Iraq purchased nuclear weapons before the war. Then, we learnt that they were just propaganda," he said.
Asked about the possibility of an attack on Iran by Israel, Gul said that it would be a big mistake which could lead to irreversible things.
"I tell frankly that such a mistake should not be made," President Gul added.
