Iran opposes the US interference in Caspian Sea division issues between Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan, ISNA reported.
"We believe that there is an understanding among regional countries and they can easily make a decision if there is an issue," Iran's Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki told ISNA on Monday referring to a US State Department official's remarks.
US State Department representative recently said at a press conference in Turkmenistan's capital Ashgabat, that Washington is ready to assist in resolving the dispute between Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan over the division of Caspian Sea.
"We don't consider the presence of foreign forces in this sea appropriate," Mottaki said.
The aspects of what has been reflected of US remarks in the media, is not clear to Iran, he noted, "we don't know what the problem between Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan is that the US wants to resolve."
The Caspian Sea is known as the sea of peace and friendship and making decisions on its legal regime or any other important decision is exclusively made based on consensus by the five littoral states of the sea, he added.
