Iran, Japan Stress Consolidation of Bilateral Ties

Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Saeed Jalili and Japan's Parliament Speaker Takahiro Yokomichi called for the strengthening of Tehran-Tokyo all-out ties, in parliamentary areas in particular, FNA reported.

"Expansion of mutual cooperation in parliamentary areas is a manifestation of the consolidation of the two countries' multifaceted ties," Jalili said.

"Given the prominent role of parliament in Iran and Japan, parliamentary relations play a significant role in the proximity of the two countries' views in various arenas," he noted.

During the meeting, Yokomichi underlined the necessity for bolstering the two countries' ties in all spheres, specially in parliamentary grounds.

The Japanese speaker also highlighted the Islamic Republic of Iran's significant standing in the Middle East, and mentioned, "Cooperation between Iran and Japan in the reconstruction of Afghanistan is a manifestation of Tehran and Tokyo's regional interaction for the establishment of stability and security in the region as well as the promotion of the welfare of the Afghan people."

Saeed Jalili, who is also Iran's chief nuclear negotiator, arrived in Tokyo on Sunday to meet with senior Japanese officials.

Jalili's 4-day visit to Japan came at an official invitation by the Tokyo officials.
