Iran, Japan Stress Consolidation of Bilateral Ties

Iran's Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Secretary Saeed Jalili and Japan's Parliamentary Speaker Takahiro Yokomichi called for the strengthening of Tehran-Tokyo ties, in particular in the parliamentary field, Fars News Agency reported.

"Expansion of mutual cooperation in parliamentary field is a manifestation of the consolidation of the two countries' multifaceted ties," Jalili said.

"Given the prominent role of parliament in Iran and Japan, parliamentary relations play a significant role in the proximity of the two countries' views in various spheres," he noted.

During the meeting, Yokomichi underlined the necessity for bolstering the two countries' ties in all spheres, especially in parliamentary level.

The Japanese speaker also highlighted the Islamic Republic of Iran's significant standing in the Middle East, and mentioned, "Cooperation between Iran and Japan in the reconstruction of Afghanistan is a manifestation of Tehran and Tokyo's regional interaction for the establishment of stability and security in the region as well as the promotion of the welfare of the Afghan people".

Saeed Jalili, who is also Iran's chief nuclear negotiator, arrived in Tokyo on Sunday to meet with senior Japanese officials.

Jalili's 4-day visit to Japan was made at an official invitation by the Tokyo officials.
