North Korea and Iran on Thursday signed an agreement with the aim of promoting cultural and scientific exchange between the countries, press reports said.

The planned cooperation is to run from this year until 2012, according to Pyongyang's official Korean Central News Agency, which did not provide details of the programme, DPA reported.

Iran's Vice-Foreign Minister Mohammad Ali Fathollahi travelled to Pyongyang to sign the deal with Jon Yong Jin, vice-chairman of the Korean Committee for Cultural Relations with Foreign Countries, the report said.
