Iran blames suppliers refusing fuel to planes at European airports

Managing Director of the Islamic Republic of Iran Airlines Farhad Parvaresh on Saturday blamed fuel suppliers for refusing fuel to Iranian passenger planes at the European airports and said they will be the final losers.

Speaking to IRNA, he said that the suppliers are currently suffering huge losses and have asked their own governments to let them sell fuel to Iranian passenger planes.

'The suppliers are under huge financial pressure and most of them are dissatisfied with the current circumstances.'

He said that failure of the fuel suppliers to sell fuel to Iranian passenger jets runs counter to Chicago convention which prohibits any type of sanctions on passenger planes.

The Islamic Republic of Iran has filed complaints with international arbitration and the issue has been taken to the International Court of Justice in the Hague, he said.

The international conventions concerning passenger planes have stipulated that the fuel suppliers are obliged to provide and maintain security, comfort and welfare for passenger flights, he said.

Parvaresh said that the European countries and the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) should be accountable for the issue.

He said that Iran Air is continuing its regular flights without any interruption or delay.
