Iran has thus far spent $800 million on maintaining security on its borders and fighting drugs, Iranian Interior Minister Mostafa Mohammad-Najjar was quoted as saying by IRNA.

Najjar, who is also Secretary of the Drugs Campaign Headquarters, stated about this on his way to Islamabad to attend a tripartite session with Pakistan and Afghanistan on drugs on an invitation by his Pakistani counterpart.

He further told reporters that Iran had proposed the idea of holding such a three-way session, hosting the first one of which.

Iran supports holding such regional meetings as a way to guarantee its borders sharing with Pakistan and Afghanistan, Najjar said.

Ministers and senior officials of Afghanistan, Iran and Pakistan will be in Islamabad on Nov.24-25 2010 to deepen cooperation in their fight against drug trafficking in a series of meetings of the Triangular Initiative.

Triangular Initiative is facilitated by UNODC and brings together Ministers from Afghanistan, Iran & Pakistan to find solutions to threats posed by drug trafficking in the region.
