The commander of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps ("Sepah") Mohammadali Jafari spoke of the conditions of political activities of Mohammad Khatami, leader of the reformist camp, Iranian Mehr news agency reported.
In an interview with the agency, Jafari spoke of the position of "Sepah" regarding the political, economic and social activities, as well as the political camps in the country.
Jafari spoke of the current position of the leadership of the reformist camp of Iran and future participation of former Iranian President Mohammad Khatami in the political processes in the country. "Naturally, the representatives of the reformist camp, not crossing the red line, may participate in the political processes. But whether Khatami can do this will depend on his position," said Jafari.
He said Khatami proved to be not at its best during the "provocative movements" (the so-called protests after the 2009 presidential election in Iran), supported the leaders of this movement and still occupies the same position. "If Khatami wishes to engage in political activities, I do not believe that people will allow him to do it. However, the persons who have not crossed the "red line" may participate in the political processes," Jafari said.
The presidential elections in Iran were conducted June 12, 2009, which were won by the current President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. Khatami rejected to nominate his candidature in the presidential election and supported Mousavi. In addition, in previous years, he criticized the economic, domestic and foreign policies of Ahmadinejad. Several months ago, Khatami said that the crisis that began after the 2009 elections still continues, and to participate in the upcoming parliamentary elections, he demanded the release of arrested members of the reformist camp.
