Iran rejects reports on seizure of its ships

No Iranian ship has been seized currently, Managing Director of the Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Lines, Mohammad Hossein Dajmar said, ISNA reported.

He stressed the country would pursue reception of compensation due to sanctions against its vessels. "seizure of any ship imposes at least $20,000 of loss daily," he said.

"Iran is pursuing the process of receiving compensation, but it is a time-consuming job."

"No Iranian ship has been hijacked or seized since freedom of Iran-India Shipping Line ship," he told.

Dajmar then referred to European sanctions against Iranian vessels and said, "Iranian vessels cannot enter into European waters due to the embargo."

Also regarding estimating the level of loss inflicted against Iran due to sanctions of its ships, he said, "the level of loss depends on the sentenced declared for any ship."

Iran's refusal to abandon its nuclear activities has resulted in resolutions adopted by the UN Security Council in 2010, as well as additional unilateral sanctions approved by the U.S. Congress and the foreign ministers of all EU countries, which were primarily directed against the banking, financial and energy sectors of Iran.

Restrictions imposed by the EU include the ban on the sale of equipment, technologies and services to Iran's energy sector which is a major source of revenue for the Iranian regime; the same measure refers to the refining industry.
