Iranian Navy drones conducted successful patrolling and surveillance operations during the "Velayat-90" war games, Deputy Commander of the IRI Navy Admiral Seyyed Mahmoud Mousavi said.

Iranian Navy drones conducted successful patrolling and surveillance operations during the "Velayat-90" war games, Deputy Commander of the IRI Navy Admiral Seyyed Mahmoud Mousavi said, IRNA reported.

Admiral Mousavi made the remarks on Wednesday while talking to IRNA in the fifth day of the of the war games going on in the Hormuz Strait, the Persian Gulf to Gulf of Aden and north of the Indian Ocean.

He said that the drones operations also helped improve performance and training of the creative young people present in the drills. Mousavi also added the Iranian war planes too participated in the war game today.

Earlier on Dec. 22, it was reported that the Naval war games could be staged in a large area from the east side of the Strait of Hormuz in the Gulf of Oman to the northern Indian Ocean, adding that in terms of intelligence, the maneuvers would cover a vast area stretching from the northern Indian Ocean to the Gulf of Aden.

It has also been announced that submarines of the Ghadir Class and other classes, warships, missile-firing destroyers, coast-to-sea missile systems, drones, and electronic warfare equipment will be tested during the exercises.

The commander of the Iranian Navy, Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari said that the war games would be conducted in the vicinity of Oman, Yemen, Pakistan, India, and northern Somalia and would be conducted in accordance with international regulations.

The maneuvers are set to display the prowess of Iran's armed forces as well as the Navy's defensive and deterrent power and its capability to provide security for vessels sailing on the open seas.
