Iran Central Bank releases poverty line report

The Central Bank of Iran has reported that the 2010 relative poverty line for households in urban areas was about 5.9 million rials ($481), but hasn't offered any figures for 2011.

The Central Bank's data was published in today's edition of Etemad newspaper in response to comments by university professor and economist Hossein Raghfar.

The report says "total gross expenditures for urban households with

3.7 people was 11.8 million rials (slightly more than $963), making the relatively poverty line for households with 3.7 members 5.9 million rials."

The cited urban households' total gross expenditures in 2010 grew 11.4 percent from 2009.
