Iran says the Western states look for new crisis in Syria

Azerbaijan, Baku, May 30 / Trend S.Isayev, T. Jafarov/

It seems like the U.S. and other Western states are looking for new crisis in the Middle East region, speaker of Iranian Parliament Ali Larijani said, Mehr reported.

"The U.S. says it can organize military intervention in Syria, just as in Libya," Larijani said. "They underestimate regional problems, and the current U.S. president is making the same political mistake that president Carter once made."

Larijani added that a war in Syria will spread to Palestine, and that in turn would affect Israel.

Syria has been covered by anti-government speeches for more than a year resulting in violent clashes. According to UN figures, the total number of victims in the country exceeds 10,000.

In turn, the Syrian authorities say the number of those killed in clashes was over 2000 soldiers and police officers against whom there are well-armed militants.

Larijani said that what happened in Libya's Bengazi will not happen in Syria, where the situation is different.

Iranian parliament speaker urged Western states to be more careful, restrain themselves from "gangerous games", and take the dangerous situation in the region seriously.
