Larijani: Iran, Egypt to take steps toward development of ties for the cause of Islam

Iranian Majlis (parliament) Speaker Ali Larijani said on Saturday Iran and Egypt as two important Islamic poles must take steps toward betterment and development of ties for the cause of Islam, IRNA reported.

He made the remarks in a meeting with Egyptian journalists and media figures in Tehran.

Pointing to recent revolutions in the region and especially in Egypt, Larijani said there are many religious, cultural and civilization common grounds between Iran and Egypt which can be important elements for rapprochement of the two countries.

He underlined the settlement of existing challenges in front of Islamic countries, and said Islamic Unity is of the necessity of Islamic societies and it should be further considered to confront the conspiracies of the "enemies of Islam".

The Majlis Speaker pointed to Western governments sanctions slapped on Iran "under different pretexts" and said what he called "the arrogant powers" are pursuing their "old colonial policies" in a modern way to prevent the Islamic countries from progress in science and technology.
