Ali Larijani was elected as a Iran's Parliamentary Speaker for 2012 with 177 votes in favor against his rival Gholam Ali Haddad-Adel's 89 votes, Fars News Agency reported.
Some 275 members of the parliament participated in the voting, with four votes counted as neutral.
Mohammad Hassan Abu-Torabi-Fard and Mohammad-Reza Bahonar were appointed as vice speakers.
The speaker of Iran's parliament elected each year. Two thirds of the elected MPs' mandates should be approved so that the acting speaker can take up his position on a permanent basis.
Larijani served four years as a Speaker of the Parliament's eighth convocation.
