There are some 2 million of drug addicts in Iran, Deputy Minister of Social Welfare, Labour and Social Protection Abdullah Emadi said on the occasion of the International Day against Drug Abuse, Mehr reported.

Emadi added that all of those 2 million drug addicts are insured.

June 26 is the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. Established by the United Nations General Assembly in 1987, this day serves as a reminder of the goals agreed to by Member States of creating an international society free of drug abuse.

"If we count everyone of those 2 million inside a family of 5 people, then it is 10 million people who have contacts with drug addicts on a regular basis," Emadi said.

He noted that 8 million of people in Iran suffer from drug related issues.
