Iran's Minister of Health and Medical Education Marzieh Vahid-Dastjerdi has warned that the AIDS problem in the country can go further and eventually "erupt as a volcano", FARS reported.

The minister went on to say that people in Iran continue to use crystal meth, which increases sexual desire up to 8-10 times, which leads to more indecipherable sexual intercourses.

Vahid-Dastjerdi noted that while the relevant structures managed to contain the AIDS spread via injections, controlling the indecipherable sexual intercourses is much more difficult.

According to the Iranian Committee for Fighting AIDS, there were over 100,000 infected people in Iran in 2011. According to the statistics, most were infected through drug use, others through blood transfusion, sexual intercourses.

Minister Vahid-Dastjerdi noted that if the problem does not meet a solution any time soon, in 10 years about 50 percent of the AIDS infectees would be infected through sexual intercourses.

She said that prositutes on the street add to the problem, as on average one woman can infect five men, adding that around 50 percent of people using such services do not use usual methods of prevention, such as condoms.
