Canada is compromising its own national interests by closing its embassy in Iran, Islamic Republic's Foreign Ministry's spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast said, ISNA reported.
On Sept. 7, dpa reported quoting Canadian Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird that country's Embassy in Tehran has been closed, and all Iranian diplomats are being expelled from Canada.
Baird said that the Iranian regime had shown "blatant disregard" for the Vienna convention and its guarantee of protection for diplomatic personnel.
In the statement posted on the Foreign Ministry's website, Baird also cited Iran's military assistance for the regime of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and defiance of UN resolutions that it must come clean about its nuclear programme.
Mehmanparast said Canada's move was hasty, careless, driven by amateur psychology, and without any particular reasons.
According to Iran's Organization for Civil Registration, currently there are some 410,000 Iranians living in Canada.
On Sept. 10, Iranian Foreign Ministry said it has established special staff that would be dealing with issues of Iranians that currently reside in Canada.
