The Armed Forces of Iran are the source of pride for the country, Iran's president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said during his speech at the Holy Week military parade today, IRINN reported live.
"We are thankful to our Armed Forces, the Basij Forces, who are prepared to safequard the existence of Iranian Nation," Ahmadinejad said.
Ahmadinejad congratulated the Iranian nation, and noted that the Holy Defense was a great phenomenon.
"Iran's holy defense was not for a territory or nation, it went beyond, to protect human dignity," Ahmadinejad noted. "Revolution of the Iranian nation was an uprising, a movement, not only against dictatorship, but also against world domination."
Iranian president noted that the great Iranian nation today still has national pride, and it respects rights of all nations.
Holy Defense Week is celebrated annually in Iran to commemorate those who died during the Iran-Iraq War.
The Iran-Iraq War began on Sept. 22, 1980 when the Iraqi army attacked the Iranian province of Khuzistan. The war ended with a ceasefire agreement on August 1988. The border between the two countries remained unchanged.
