Acclaimed Iranian filmmaker Reza Mirkarimi's dramatic comedy "A Cube of Sugar" has been named for the 2013 Oscar's foreign-language film submission, Press TV reported.

Iranian cinema selection committee has chosen Mirkarimi's latest production while the movie beat other screen competitors such as "Queen", "Facing Mirrors", "Hatred" and several other productions, the committee spokesman, Amir Esfandiari announced.

Mirkarimi's latest feature-length movie is about a family who lives in an old Iranian city and recounts the story of their attempts to deal with different problems and incidents.

The film was screened at several national and international film festivals, including the 2011 Montreal International Film Festival, the 2011 Busan International film festival, the 2012 Lucania Film Festival and the 2012 Spain's Cines Del Sur Film Festival.

Under the Moonlight (2001), The Child and the Soldier (2001), So Close, So Far (2005) and As Simple as That (2008) are some of Mirkarimi's better known works.

The Academy Award for best foreign-language film is annually given to a feature-length motion picture produced outside the US with a predominantly non-English dialogue track.

The 2013 Oscar nominations are scheduled to be announced on January 10, 2013. The 85th annual Academy Awards ceremony will open on February 24, 2013.
