Iran's FM confers with Egyptian president Morsi

Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi discussed bilateral ties and regional and international developments with Egyptian President Mohammed Morsi on Thursday, IRNA reported.

The issue of Palestine and Syria were among the topics dealt with the two officials. Salehi is scheduled to hold talks with other senior officials of Egypt.

This is the second visit of Egypt by Salehi during the tenure of President Morsi, who has also visited Iran once to attend the 16th Non Aligned Movement (NAM) Tehran Summit as the head of NAM and handed over the NAM presidency for the next four years to Iran.

In April 2012, Iran appointed an ambassador to Egypt. Soon after Mohammed Morsi visited Iran in August 2012, it was decided to reestablish bilateral diplomatic relations, with rededication of embassy locations.

A first ambassador was nominated to represent Egypt in Iran. While overall relations have been steadily improving, continued tensions between Iran, Saudi Arabia and allied Western nations have put this development into question.
