A meeting of Iranian Interior Minister Mostafa Mohammad Najjar and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Kolokoltsev was held in Tehran yesterday, the website of the Iranian TV channel IRIB News reported on Tuesday.

The parties discussed the positions of the two countries in the fight against international terrorism, drug trafficking and other problems. The sides stressed that Moscow and Tehran have similar approaches to the solution of these problems.

Mohammad Najjar positively assessed Moscow's position, which opposes Western sanctions against the country and recognizes the right of Iran to use nuclear energy for peaceful purposes.

In turn, Kolokoltsev stressed the need to strengthen the legal framework in the field of the development of bilateral relations between Iran and Moscow.

He also stressed that both countries face common challenges, and it is necessary to develop bilateral cooperation to successfully oppose them.

The U.S., other Western countries, and Israel suspect Iran of developing nuclear weapons under the guise of a peaceful nuclear energy program. Tehran denies the charges, saying its nuclear program is for civilian purposes.
Six world powers have sought since 2003 in cooperation with the IAEA Iran's suspension of uranium enrichment, which can pose a threat to nuclear non-proliferation.
