Within the first ten months of the current Iranian year, Iranian border guards managed to prevent seven terrorist groups from entering the country, Iranian Border Guard Commander Brigadier General Hossein Zolfaghari said.

Within the first ten months of the current Iranian year, Iranian border guards managed to prevent seven terrorist groups from entering the country, Iranian Border Guard Commander Brigadier General Hossein Zolfaghari said, Fars reported.

Zolfaghari noted that one of the last attepts was prevented last week, when due to clashes at the border, the guards were forced to open fire at the terrorists.

According to Zolfaghari, two terrorists wearing vests with explosives, tried to cross the border, but as a result of the armed clash with the guards, had to flee to Pakistan.

The Commander said that the border police managed to discover 24 million liters of fuel and about 90 tons of drugs this year.

Noting that the border police of Iran has intensified its work with regard to smuggling, Zolfaghari said that compared to last year, this year 69 percent more of fuel, 82 percent more of drugs, and 50 percent more of alcohol were discovered by the border police.

Iran spends billions of dollars and has lost thousands of its police troops in the war against traffickers.

Owing to its rigid efforts, Iran makes 89 percent of the world's total opium seizures and has turned into the leading country in drug campaign.
