Iran starts production of 15 new radioisotopes

The production of a number of new domestically produced radioisotopes has started, the deputy director of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran announced in Isfahan on Sunday, Tehran Times reported.

According to Hossein Khalafi, eight of the new radioisotopes were unveiled in the last Iranian calendar year, which ended on March 19, 2012, and seven of them will be unveiled by the end of the current Iranian calendar year, which concludes on March 20.

Radioisotope is a radioactive isotope which is used in physical and biological researches and therapeutics.

The radioisotopes which are produced in Iran are mainly used for diagnosis and treatment of various cancers or are used to alleviate cancer-related pains.
