There are about 54 airports in Iran, and only 3 of them are up to international standards, secretary General of the International Conference of Qualified Organization in Tourism Industries, Mohammadreza Kashanipoor said, CHN Press reported.

"Iran airports holding company only has three airports, Mehrabad Airport, Imam Khomeini Airport, and Mashhad airport, that meet the criterias of international standards. The rest of the airports are below standards and are up to 4-10 times their income and expenses," Kashanipoor said.

Kashanipoor said that foreign tourists that want to come to Iran are used to international standards, and such are hard to find in Iran.

"The tourists would want 5-star hotels, which Iran doesn't have, because the country is not credited in international organizations. Same thing is with airports," he noted.
