Iran on Monday congratulated Nicolas Maduro on his election as Venezuela's president, the Fars news agency reported.
"Your election victory is in line with the continuous trend of a constructive path seeking a new and just world order," Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said in a message to Maduro after Sunday's voting.
Ahmadinejad - one of the closest allies of former Venezuelan president Hugo Chavez, who died last month - declared Iran's readiness to support the new Venezuelan government and expand the two countries' relations.
