Iran's Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi will be visiting Jordan today, ministry's spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast said, IRNA reported.

Mehmanparast noted that since Iran is a chairman country of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), Salehi's visit to Jordan will provide consultations on regional potential, and also on solving the long-lasting crisis in Syria via political dialogue.

On Sunday Israel struck targets near Damascus, and according to Syrian reports Israel targetted an arms depot, a research center and two brigades of presidential guards, with 300 soldiers being killed as a result of the strike.

Israeli officials said the raid was not connected to Syria's civil war, and aimed at stopping Lebanon's Hezbollah, an ally of Iran, acquiring weapons that could be used to strike Tel Aviv if Israel followed through on threats to attack Iranian nuclear facilities.

Anti-government protests have continued in Syria for more than two years.

According to the UN, the total number of victims of the conflict in Syria exceeds 70,000 with around three million in need of humanitarian assistance.

The Syrian authorities say they oppose the well-armed militants.
