Azerbaijan, Baku, July 23/ Trend, N. Umid/

Employees of Iran's Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports have staged a sit-in protest against the Ministry due to their employee rights, Fararu portal reported.

According to the report employee workers protest because their salaries have not been increased recent year. Contract employees' protest is due to non renewal of their employment contract.

The Iranian administration has set the minimum salary of civil servants in the current solar year (started on March 21), at 4.9 million rials (about $197.7, based on the official rate of 24,786 rials per each USD), ISNA reported.

On March 18, IRNA quoted Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad as saying that Iran will increase salaries of civil servants at least 20 percent in the current solar year.

Annual rise in salaries is inconsistent with surging inflation rate in Iran.

According to statistics released by the Statistical Center of Iran, the number of the unemployed rose from 2,674,866 in Iranian calendar year 1384 (March 2005-March 2006) to 2,944,158 in Iranian calendar year 1391 (March 2012-March 2013).

The unemployment rate in Iran stood at 12.3 percent last year, showing a 1.2 percent fall compared to its preceding year, the statistical center of Iran reported.

This is while some 6 million workers in Iran receive the lowest salary set by the labor ministry.
