Iranian Grand Ayatollahs: eavesdropping not permitted

Azerbaijan, Trend, Aug. 19 / N. Umid

Eavesdropping is not permitted in Islam, Iranian Etemmad newspaper quoted Iran`s Grand ayatollahs Abdul-Karim Mousavi Ardebili, Naser Makarem Shirazi and Yousef Sanei.

According to the report, these ayatollahs have argued that installing eavesdropping and videotape equipments without the knowledge or consent of the owners of homes or offices is not permitted in Islam.

They also excluded situations such as security topics or human life threatening issues from their religious decree, the report said.

It should be recalled that, Iranian MP Ali Motahari which is a critic of ex-president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said on mid-July that he had discovered eavesdropping devices installed in his office.

Motahari requested the Intelligence Ministry to explain the installation of the devices, which he said violated Iranian law, while other parliament members criticized Motahari for publicizing the issue.
