The world community and the people of Middle East are not ready for new war in the region, Iranian president Hassan Rouhani said, Mehr news agency reported.
Rouhani underscored that there are existing threats to regional stability, which were initiated by new wave of extremism and terrorism, and this wave will increase.
He went on to note that international interference in regional issues will negatively affect regional stability and security.
Earlier, Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei expressed his concern over the region being a "powder barrel" that its future cannot be predicted.
The Supreme Leader also said that attacking Syria would be catastrophic for the whole region.
The Syrian opposition says more than 1,300 people died when toxic gases were unleashed on Eastern Ghouta and Moadamiya - two neighbourhoods on the outskirts of Damascus last Wednesday.
