Former president of Iran, Hashemi Rafsanjani has met with Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, and asked him to release two of country's opposition leaders, Saham News reported.

Mohammadtaqhi Karroubi, the son of jailed opposition leader Mehdi Karroubi said that Khamenei, during his talk with Rafsanjani, said that the country's National Security Council should look into this issue.

It should be noted that Iranian president Hassan Rouhani has dismissed head of Iran's Supreme National Security Council Saeed Jalili from his post, and appointed Iran's former commander of the IRGC navy Ali Shamhani to it.

According to Saham News, Khamenei and Rafsanjani discussed other topics as well, mainly the problems of domestic nature in Iran.

Country's opposition leaders Mehdi Karroubi and Mir Hossein Mousavi are currently under home arrest in Iran, after the unrests and protests of the 2009 presidential elections in Iran.
