Foreign Minister Mohammad-Javad Zarif, by referring to good ties between Iran and Switzerland, said that the two countries have much potential for expansion of ties, IRNA reported.
Switzerland new Ambassador to Tehran J. Haus submitted a copy of his credentials to Foreign Minister Zarif on Wednesday.
In the meeting, Zarif called Switzerland as an influential country in the world and Europe, especially in the fields of politics and economy.
He expressed hope that with the new government in Iran, interactions between Iran and European states, including Switzerland would be strengthened upon mutual respect.
Referring to Iran's role and stance in the region, Zarif continued that Iran has vast capacities for cooperation and constructive interaction in different issues of politics, security, economy and trade with Europe, especially Switzerland.
Zarif, by referring to the recent developments in the region, especially the crisis in Syria, expressed hope that the West, by taking advantage of the opportunity created by the Russian initiative in this field, try to settle the crisis through diplomatic and political ways and remove the shadow of war and violence from the region.
Mr. Haus, for his part, conveyed greetings of Switzerland foreign minister to his Iranian counterpart and reminded good and friendly relations between the two countries.
He expressed hope that with the new administration of President Rohani, the two countries witness expansion of ties between Tehran and Bern.
