Iran's President Hassan Rouhani says promotion of all-out ties with neighboring countries, particularly Muslim nations, are among the foreign policy priorities of the incumbent Iranian administration, PressTV reported.
In a Tuesday congratulatory message to Mamnoon Hussain on his election as the president of Pakistan, Rouhani stated that the Islamic Republic of Iran attaches great significance to the expansion of ties with Pakistan.
The Iranian president also pointed to the cultural, historical and political affinities between Iran and Pakistan, and expressed hope that such commonalities would help further enhancement of bilateral, regional and international relations, establishment of stability and security as well as economic prosperity in the region.
Rouhani wished Hussain good health and success, and the Pakistani nation prosperity and progress.
On Monday, Hussain took the oath of office as the new president of Pakistan. Former president Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, members of the federal cabinet and heads of parliamentary parties attended the ceremony.
The 73-year-old Hussain was elected on July 30 by members of the four provincial assemblies and the federal parliament. Hussain, a candidate of the Pakistan Muslim League - Nawaz (PML-N) which swept the May 11 general elections, received a clear majority of votes against Wajihuddin Ahmed, the presidential nominee of the Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaf (PTI).
The Pakistan People's Party (PPP) had boycotted the election.
