Chairman of the Expediency Council Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani said on Sunday that the current situation is the best opportunity for Iran and Turkey to broaden bilateral cooperation in various fields, IRNA reported.
Rafsanjani made the remarks in a meeting with Turkish Parliament Speaker Cemil Cicek.
Having good political cooperation with the neighboring states leads to economic, cultural and social progress, Rafsanjani said.
In all political situations, the governments should serve nations and work hard for a promising future, Rafsanjani said.
Referring to the deeply-rooted ties and cooperation between the two countries, he said after triumph of the Islamic Revolution expansion of cooperation with Turkey was a top priority for the Iranian foreign policy.
In the current situation in the world which information is available for all, it helped enlighten the people and the nations easily managed to analyze the performance of the governments, he said adding that good record of cooperation between Iran and Turkey indicated that the two nations are keen on expansion of relations and cooperation.
Given recent developments in the Islamic states, he said the countries intellectuals should not let the hardliners to create problems for people under religious excuses.
Referring to the on going events in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iraq, Egypt, Tunisia, Syria, Yemen, Bahrain and other Islamic states, he said much to our regret these hardliners take tough actions under the name of Islam while Islam calls for brotherhood, equality, mutual respect and respect to rights of others.
The Turkish parliament speaker, for his part described Hashemi Rafsanjani as an outstanding figure of the Muslim World and Turkey.
It is quite a vital need for any government to make use of your invaluable experiences to broaden relations and cooperation, he said.
Despite of many ups and downs in relations, Turkey is determined to broaden extensive cooperation with Iran, he said.
Many countries are now dealing with extremism as they never let moderation to be observed by the governments so far, he said.
He expressed the hope that the upcoming consultations by the foreign ministers at New York would open a new chapter for expansion of cooperation.
