Iran's Foreign Minister Mohammad-javad Zarif has met with European Union Foreign Policy Chief Catherin Ashton in New York.
The meeting was held in the sidelines of Zarif's trip to New York to take part in the United Nations General Assembly, the ISNA News Agency reported.
The international event will kick off on Tuesday September 24.
The EU foreign policy chief has said that her meeting with Zarif focused on Iran's nuclear energy program.
She also announced that Iran's foreign minister will meet his counterparts from the six countries present in the five permanent members of the UN Security Council and Germany later this week.
The group includes the United States, Russia, Britain, France, China and Germany. Zarif's meeting with his European and US counterparts is expected to take place in New York on Thursday.
Zarif will also meet with the foreign ministers of the P5+1 countries on Wednesday.
