There's no program for meeting between Iran's Foreign minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and US Secretary of State John Kerry, Iranian FM spokeswoman Marzieh Afkham said at the weekly press conference in Tehran, IRINN reported.
Reuters earlier reported that the Zarif-Kerry meeting will eventually take place, as both Iranian and US officials are attending the U.N. summit of world leaders.
UN Security policy chief Catherine Ashton, after the meeting with Iran's FM Mohammad Javad Zarif told reporters that Zarif would join counterparts from the five permanent members of the U.N. Security Council and Germany at a meeting that has been scheduled for Thursday to discuss the Iranian nuclear program, which is at the heart of tensions between Tehran and the West.
Afkham noted at the press conference that the meeting between Zarif and Kerry would only be held within the framework of the Iran-P5+1 meeting.
The spokeswoman further said that there's no planned meeting between Iranian president Hassan Rouhani and US president Barack Obama either, adding that the news on possible meeting were "media speculations".
President Obama and the new Iranian president, Hassan Rouhani, have exchanged letters in recent weeks, and U.S. officials have hinted that the two leaders may have a fleeting encounter this week in New York, where they are both scheduled to address the U.N. General Assembly. U.N. headquarters.
Afkham said that FM Zarif would be heading Iran's nuclear negotiating team with the P5+1 group.
Speaking about the "heroic flexibility" phrase of Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Afkham said that this term should not be interpreted as weakness or withdrawing from Iranian people's rights.
"It means wise movement in diplomacy for protecting national interests," she said.
According to article 110 of the Iranian constitution, the right to make strategic and foreign policy decisions in Iran, mainly belongs to religious leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
"I still support the rules of diplomatic ethical conduct, as well as what I said years ago, a heroic flexible policy," Khamenei said recently at a meeting with generals of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
