Former Iranian president, reformist Mohammad Khatami said that there are several groups in Iran that try to separate the followers of Hassan Rouhani from the government, Khatami's official website reported.

Khatami noted that these groups consist of people who lost at the last Iranian presidential elections. Rouhani won the June 14 elections in Iran after gathering over 50 percent of votes.

"These groups want to separate Rouhani's followers from the government, and then claim that the new administration is not effective," Khatami said.

Khatami went on to say that Rouhani has to keep his promises that he gave the people prior to being elected as country's president.
