Iranian trade minister stresses minimising imports

Iranian Trade Minister Mohammadreza Ne'matzadeh has emphasised the need for minimising imports, the Tasnim News Agency reported.

He also said that staple food needed for people should be provided.

The state commerce company was established to secure imports of staple food when the private sector and other manufacturers are unable to meet domestic market requirements, he explained.

Iran's foreign trade has surpassed $45.218 billion during the first seven months of the current solar year which started March 21, the country's customs administration reported.

Iran has imported 16.011 million tons of goods worth $24.056 billion during the first seven months of the current solar year which indicates a fall by 32.52 and 24.79 per cent respectively compared to the same period of the last solar year.

Iran imported some $ 4.9 billion, $4.623 billion, $2.269 billion, $2.046 billion and $2.028 billion worth of goods from the UAE, China, India, South Korea and Turkey respectively during the period.

According to the report, Iran exported $21.162 billion worth of non-oil goods including gas condensates during the first seven months of the current solar year.

Iran's exports increased by 7.49 per cent in terms of weight and decreased by 15.06 per cent in terms of value compared to the same period of the last solar year.

In the past Iranian calendar year which ended on March 20, Iran had non-oil trade with 196 countries.

The country's balance of trade with 97 countries such the United Arab Emirates, South Korea, Switzerland, Turkey and China was negative in the previous year.

Tehran's balance was also positive with 99 countries including Iraq, Afghanistan, India, Turkmenistan and Pakistan.
