Iranian opposition leader Mehdi Karroubi underwent a surgery, his son Mohammad Hussein karoubi wrote on his Facebook page on Nov. 28.

He did not specify what kind of surgery it was.

Karroubi, who is under house arrest since February 2011, suffers several health problems including arthritis and digestive diseases.

Mohammad Hossein Karroubi said his father was taken to Laleh Hospital in Tehran for surgery, adding that Karroubi was returned home on the same day, after surgery.

Karroubi, along with other opposition leader Mir Hossein Mousavi are currently under house arrests after the unrest and protests of the 2009 presidential elections in Iran.

Early in September, Iranian media outlets reported that former President of Iran, Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani has met with Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, and asked him to release both Karroubi and Mousavi.

Mohammad Taghi Karroubi, the son of Mehdi Karroubi said that Khamenei, during his talk with Rafsanjani, said the country's National Security Council should look into this issue.

On Nov. 22, the head of Iran's Guardian Council, Ahmad Jannati, said that the opposition leaders under house arrest should be thankful for not being given death sentences. He added that the two leaders are alive due to 'Islamic mercy'.

On Nov. 28, Iranian Etemaad newspaper quoted, spokesman of Iran's administration, Mohammad-Baqer Nobakh as saying the Iranian administration is pursuing the release of jailed opposition leaders as well as other political prisoners.
