A British parliamentary delegation headed by former foreign secretary Jack Straw arrived here Tuesday morning on a three-day visit to discus issues of mutual interest with senior Iranian officials, IRNA reported on Jan.7.

The four-man group is to attend the Iranian parliament (Majlis) Tuesday morning session and meet with members of Iran-UK Parliamentary Friendship Group.

Britain closed its embassy in Tehran in 2011 after a rally against British new imposed sanctions on Iran escalated into violence and Iranian protesters scaled the walls, ransacked offices and burned buildings.

On 8 October 2012, the Britain Foreign Secretary announced that the UK and Iran had agreed to appoint non-resident Chargés d'Affaires as an important step towards improving the bilateral relationship.

"Straw is to attend a press conference at the Iranian Majlis Wednesday afternoon", Abbasali Mansouri Araani, the Iranian head of Iran-UK parliamentary friendship group told IRNA on Jan.7.

According to Araani, promotion of Tehran-London relations in various fields, particularly in economic and political activities, is a major objective of the visit to Tehran of the British delegation.

Straw had once visited Iran as the British Foreign Secretary in 2003 when Hassan Rouhani was head of the then Irans nuclear negotiating team with the West.
